At Precision Chiropractic, serving Houston, TX and the surrounding area, we offer our patients the option of decompression therapy. Sometimes, we use it as your primary treatment for your back issues. However, most often, we use it to complement other chiropractic treatments like a spinal alignment.
Decompression therapy is a chiropractic treatment that gently stretches the spine. We place you on a table and connect you to a motorized traction device that slowly pulls the spine. This particular treatment relieves pressure on the sensitive discs in between the vertebrae and decreases pain by reducing pressure on the discs. It also has the potential to lessen any nerve irritation caused by the vertebrae and injured discs may heal better when this pressure is reduced. Spinal decompression promotes more optimal blood flow to the area and ultimately, this brings additional nutrients to the area. Many of these vitamins and minerals are necessary for the healing process, and when you have more nutrients going to the area, the area will heal more effectively.
We use spinal decompression therapy to treat herniated discs. Herniated discs happen when the soft center of a disc begins to push out of a tear in the outer area of the disc. A herniated disc may irritate the nearby nerves and cause numbness, weakness or pain in a leg or arm, but sometimes it doesn't cause any symptoms. When we perform decompression therapy, it takes pressure off of the herniated disc when it stretches out the spine, which allows the disc to heal quicker and more effectively.
Our Houston, TX chiropractor will use spinal decompression to relieve pain from degenerative disc disease. Degenerative disc disease occurs as a result of age. Changes in the spine occur and can cause pain and discomfort. We use decompression therapy to take pressure off of the degenerative disc.
Sciatica is another condition we treat using decompression therapy. When our chiropractor stretches the spine, it takes pressure off of the nerves. Sciatica often times occurs as a result of pressure on the sciatic nerve. When we relieve the pressure, it will ease the symptoms of sciatica, so you won't experience pain, numbness or tingling in your lower back and legs.
